Strava's New Routing Feature: Is it better than a local?

Strava's just announced a totally revamped Strava Routes engine. This functionality lets you pick ride or run, then choose how much elevation you want, as well as surface type - plus of course the distance you want. From there it'll return three route options that change with whatever your starting point is. It's fascinating to play with, but is it equal to or better than local knowledge?
