Description
Today we have the second part of our Intel Mod Series - with the Intel NUC 9 Extreme. Today James runs some tests to modify the Element board to incorporate custom watercooling, including a chat with Luke, our aeronautics engineer as we plan to create our own cooling block.

• Desoldering the heatsink VRM extension piece using the heat gun.
• Levelling off the top of the copper plate with wet sanding to improve Water block contact.
• Fitting the card back into the case to check the clearance between the Compute Element and the GPU.
• Not enough space, swapped to a different Alphacool block with a lower profile.
• Attach the Water block to the stock heatsink with Zip Ties to check clearances.
• The card fits with the water block installed with approx 5mm clearance to the GPU backplate.
• Test boot of the system with the water block fitted to check that nothing has been damaged.
