Video Transcript: Hello Kitty is 40! As the media reflects on the prominence of arguably the world’s most famous cat in light of her four decades of fame, MakerBot is bringing the cuteness of catness to a 3D printer near you. MakerBot is celebrating her birthday with a set of Hello Kitty and Friends ring toppers available for purchase in Ring Maker, part of the MakerBot PrintShop app.
As visiting professor of anthropology at Harvard University, Christine Yano – who specialises in Hello Kitty, said that the cute feline gives adults some licence to play, and to express a part of themselves that other parts of their lives may not allow.
There are indeed some very serious fans of the queen of cattery, such as highly dedicated interior designer, Terry Goh, who has spent an amazing seven years crafting a shrine to Hello Kitty in South Korea, as the BBC reported upon last week.
3D printing certainly hasn’t escaped the Kittymania. MakerBot was also an exhibitor at the Hello Kitty Con, Los Angeles, which ran from October the 30th to November the 2nd, bringing cat-shaped 3D printed fun to the event.
